Notices and letters
Enrolled Agents are licensed by the Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS in every state. For our members, that means notices and letters get read, answered, and closed by us, and the problem that produced the letter gets fixed so it does not come back. We do not take on audits for people who are not already clients. If an existing client is examined, we assess it first: most we can handle in house, and for the ones that are outside our wheelhouse, or for offers in compromise and collection cases, we bring in a tax resolution specialist and stay involved as your preparer.
Upload the notice the day it arrives. The deadlines printed on these letters are real, and most are 30 days.
We pull transcripts, read what the agency thinks happened, and tell you what it means and what it will cost, if anything.
We prepare the response and handle every call and letter that follows until the matter is closed.
If a client’s letter is an exam, we look at it honestly. Most are within our wheelhouse and we handle them. If it is not, or it is a collection case or an offer in compromise, we connect you with a tax resolution specialist and stay involved as your preparer.
Notice response is included with Ascent (up to three hours a year) and Summit (notices fully handled, plus exam coordination). Base members are quoted a flat fee after we read the letter. We do not represent non-clients in audits. Work done by a resolution specialist is billed by them, not by us.
See the tiersA federally licensed tax practitioner with unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Unlike a CPA or attorney license, it is specific to tax and valid in every state.
For existing clients, sometimes. We assess each exam and handle the ones we are confident are in our wheelhouse, which is most of them. When one is not, or when the matter is a collection case or an offer in compromise, we bring in a tax resolution specialist who does that work every week, and we stay in the loop as your preparer. We do not take audit cases from people who are not already clients.
Yes, up to a point. We can pull transcripts, prepare the missing returns, and get you current. If there is a large balance that needs a payment arrangement or an offer in compromise, that part goes to the resolution specialist.
Not before someone reads it. A meaningful share of notices are wrong or partly wrong, usually because a form was matched to the wrong year or a payment was misapplied. Send it to us first.
