Planning and advisory

The return is the report card. Planning is the semester.

By the time a return is prepared, almost every decision that mattered has already been made. Planning is the work of making those decisions on purpose: projecting the year, adjusting withholding and estimates, timing income and deductions, and choosing the right retirement and entity moves while they still count.

Who it is for

  • Business owners and self-employed people without reliable withholding
  • Households with equity compensation, a sale, a move, or another big change this year
  • Anyone who wants to stop being surprised in April

What you get

  • A current-year projection with the number you should expect to owe or get back
  • A written tax summary and, at Summit, an in-depth Tax Action Plan
  • Withholding and estimated payment targets, updated when life changes
  • Year-round advisory hours at Ascent, unlimited planning sessions at Summit
  • Entity, retirement, and compensation analysis for owners

How it works

01

Baseline

We start from your last return and this year’s facts and build the projection.

02

Levers

We identify the handful of decisions that move your number and quantify each one.

03

Decide

You choose. We document the plan and the payments it requires.

04

Check in

Life changes. The plan gets updated when it does, not the following April.

Pricing

Planning is included in the Ascent and Summit tiers of both individual and business memberships rather than sold separately.

Common questions

Can you promise I will pay less?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. We can promise you will know your number early, understand what drives it, and make the decisions that are available to you with full information.

Is this only for business owners?

No. Equity compensation, rental property, a home sale, retirement timing, and charitable giving all reward planning. If you have a W-2 and nothing else, Base is probably right for you and we will tell you so.
